Bill James - Baseball Statistics

Bill James - Baseball Statistics STEM Sports Visual Arts

Beginning in 1977, Bill James published a yearly analysis of Major-League Baseball statistics.  By 2002 - when Billy Beane had to pick a team for the Oakland A's with a very limited budget - he considered using the Bill-James approach to help him select the best team members.

The stats, the analysis, the number-of-runs - all of these numbers, and more - are included in the Baseball Abstract accumulated by Bill James.  Beane and his assistant, Paul DePodesta, put this information to work (to the disgust of some of the A's baseball scouts).

Thanks to Bill James, his publisher (Simon & Schuster) and Google Books, The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract is available for online viewing.
