Blossoming Almond Tree

Blossoming Almond Tree Biographies Famous People Tragedies and Triumphs Nineteenth Century Life Visual Arts

Vincent was very touched when his brother and sister-in-law named their newborn son "Vincent," after his uncle.

Once again calling on the Japanese influences, which he developed during his Paris years, Vincent created "Blossoming Almond Tree" to honor his nephew.  We know that was his intention from a letter he wrote to his Mother on February 20, 1890:

...I started right away to make a picture for him, to hang in their bedroom, big branches of white almond blossom against a blue sky...

The painting, which Vincent created in February of 1890, is now owned by the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
