Bottleneck at K2 - August 2008

Climbers make their way past K2's bottleneck, an extremely dangerous spot on the mountain, on August 1, 2008.

A delay, in passing through the bottleneck, causes climbers to get behind schedule on their descent (after 18 people reached the summit). Due to various causes, including an avalanche from the serac directly above the bottleneck, 11 climbers die.

August 1, 2008 becomes the deadliest day on K2.
