Brigadier General Edwin ("Bull") Sumner

Brigadier General Edwin (

Edwin Vose Sumner, born in Boston, rose to the ranks of Brigadier General during the U.S. Civil War. 

During his earlier military career, at the battle of Cerro Gordo, a musket ball glanced off his head.  The result was his nickname:  Bull Head (later, just Bull) Sumner.
