Burial Mounds at Lejre

Burial Mounds at Lejre Archeological Wonders Legends and Legendary People World History Ancient Places and/or Civilizations

Archeological work continues in the Lejre area of eastern Denmark.  Among other things, scholars are trying to understand how ancients buried their dead and how they were able to create burial mounds without the types of tools available in the modern age.

What is occurring in this area of Denmark is important to the Beowulf story since scholars believe the epic’s setting is at Roskilde, in the Lejre area of today’s eastern Denmark.
