Cold War - A Divided Berlin

Soon after the end of World War II, another conflict threatened to erupt in Europe.  Known as the Cold War, former allies (Stalin and his sphere of influence) struggled with Western Europe and the United States.

Tensions were especially high in Berlin, as depicted in this Universal Newsreel from the 22nd of July, 1948.  When Soviet troops essentially cut-off West Berlin's ability to supply its citizens with basic necessities, an airlift began:

While the Western Allies increase their aerial shuttle into Berlin, Russia's refusal to negotiate leaves issue in doubt. The threat of a show-down brings the world close to war.
