Crusaders Kill in Nicea

Crusaders Kill in Nicea

Before the Crusaders reached Jerusalem they fought at Nicea.  What happened there is included in Story of the Crusades, by James P. Boyd.

Gustave Dore created 100 illustrations to accompany Boyd's book.  He produce an engraving for the Nicea-battle aftermath.

That illustration - image 14 (at page 59 of the 1892 edition) - is depicted above.  It is entitled:

Crusaders Throwing Heads into Nice[a].

The First Crusaders reached Jerusalem, after a difficult journey, in early June of 1099.  They were merciless to the Jews and Muslims in the city after they conquered Jerusalem on July 15th of that year.
