Damon Runyon (1880-1946) was one of America's most-recognized sports writers.  He was born in Manhattan, Kansas.

Not just a writer about sports, Runyon also wrote short stories.  His book, Guys and Dolls, was the basis for a Broadway musical and a Hollywood film.

During his career, Runyon also wrote about Jimmy Braddock, calling him the "Cinderella Man."
