This graphic depicts the positions of the Irish rebels ("volunteers") and their opponents ("British Army") during the Easter Rising of 1916.  The rebellion was staged in Dublin by about 1,800 independence-seeking people whose proclamation of freedom asserted, among other things:

...We declare the right of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland... We hereby proclaim the Irish Republic as a Sovereign Independent State.
