This image depicts an 18th-century lithograph of Edward Teach, more famously known as the pirate “Blackbeard.”

Born in Bristol (England), Teach was an active pirate between 1712-1718.  His base of operations was the Atlantic and Caribbean.

His ship - which was once British (called Concord), then French (called La Concorde de Nantes) - was a 300-ton vessel which Teach called Queen Anne’s Revenge.

Fighting against the Royal Navy, in 1718, Teach lost his life (then his head) in North Carolina (at the Ocracoke Inlet).
