Emmett Till - No Kidnapping Charges

During the murder trial, defense lawyers had argued - among other things - that the body was so deformed its remains could not be identified as Emmett Till's.  They apparently gave little weight to Emmett's ring which was found on the body.

Mose Wright wasn't just upset about the verdict.  He feared for the lives of his family.  Shortly after the verdict, he - and they - left Mississippi.  For many years thereafter, Mose's son - Simeon Wright - wanted revenge against his cousin's killers.

Promising the local sheriff he'd return to Mississippi, when it was time for a grand jury to hear testimony on kidnapping charges against Bryant and Milam, Mose did as he said he would.  Once again, however, he was disappointed.

After deliberating just a short while, the grand jury returned no further indictments against the brothers.  For Emmett's mother, that result was no more surprising than the murder-trial verdict had been.
