Execution of Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who first publicly spoke-out against Adolf Hitler soon after his rise to power, was hanged in April of 1945 for allegedly taking part in the attempted assassination of the Führer at Wolf's Lair.

Less than a month later, Hitler was dead by his own hand and the war in Europe was over.

Today, Bonhoeffer is still remembered for his courage in speaking out against the tyranny of the Nazis and their leader.
