Flea Bites Medieval Times Famous Historical Events Disasters Medicine

The bite of an oriental rat flea (Xenopsylla cheopis) infected with Yersinia pestis (the organism responsible for bubonic plague) can cause the development of an illness so devastating it can kill the person who's been bitten.
