Gandhi - Assassination

When he was 78 years old, Gandhi tried to mediate a rift which had developed between two of India's leading political figures.  Following that meeting, on his way to daily prayers, Gandhi was shot three times by a fellow Hindu.

His funeral procession, and cremation, were filmed and the historical footage is available online.

On the 30th of January, 2010 - sixty-two years to the day after his assassination - some of Gandhi's ashes were scattered in the Indian Ocean off the coast of South Africa.
