Grand Haven, Michigan American History Social Studies Nineteenth Century Life

Grand Haven - a seaport town along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan where sunsets are a sight to behold - is situated about twenty miles north of Holland

At the time Holland burned, in October of 1871, the people of Grand Haven came to the aid of their neighbors to the south.

This drawing depicts how Grand Haven appeared at about the time of the great fire.
