Hanging Gardens of Babylon - Artist Rendering

Hanging Gardens of Babylon - Artist Rendering Geography Social Studies World History Archeological Wonders Ancient Places and/or Civilizations

Considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the "hanging gardens of Babylon" were reportedly created by King Nebuchadnezzar II for his wife.  It is said that she was a Median who missed the natural beauty of her homeland.

Tradition tells us that the gardens did not "hang," as such.  Instead, the plants grew on the terraces and roofs of the royal palace in Babylon.

This artist rendering, of the gardens, is believed to have been created in the nineteenth century.
