This image depicts the hands of Dr. Mihran Kassabian, an early radiologist who was concerned about the potentially negative side effects of X-rays due to his own experience. By 1900, Dr. Kassabian reported that he was getting burns on his hands.
As years passed, he urged caution with this also-amazing diagnostic tool. Right to be concerned about what he noticed, Dr. Kassabian developed cancer of the hands. He died of cancer in 1910.
