Hartford Circus Fire Black Smoke

Hartford Circus Fire Black Smoke Disasters

Photographs of the burning Ringling Brothers’ circus tent show black smoke as the deadly fire quickly consumed the "big top" on the 6th of July, 1944.

Soldiers, home on furlough from World War II, helped people to survive the disaster. Despite the help, many people died as a result of the blaze.

It remains America's deadliest circus fire.
