Herculaneum

Herculaneum Ancient Places and/or Civilizations Archeological Wonders Geography World History Disasters

The ancient town of Herculaneum was destroyed by Vesuvius in 79 AD.  Today archeological excavations exist side-by-side with the modern town of Ercolano (which is named for its predecessor).
