Horatio Kitchener Visual Arts Biographies Social Studies Victorian Age World History Nineteenth Century Life

Horatio Herbert Kitchener (1850-1916) was commander-in-chief of British forces during the South African Boer Wars.

Significant numbers of Queenslander troops - from Australia - were also sent to fight in those wars, hence Kitchener's photo on the cover of The Queenslander for January 8, 1910.

He was also known as "Lord Kitchener of Khartoum."
