John B. Gordon

John B. Gordon was a lawyer and coal mine developer, from Georgia, before he commanded Confederate troops during America's war between the states.  He was the Confederate officer whom Joshua Chamberlain saluted during the surrender ceremonies at Appomattox Court House in April, 1865.
