This image depicts the dagger which John Wilkes Booth used to stab Major Rathbone immediately following the shooting of President Lincoln. The picture was taken by Carol M. Highsmith on May 28, 2007.

The Library of Congress maintains this photograph where it has this description:

[Knife and Sheath: Horn-handled dagger used by John Wilkes Booth to stab Major Henry Rathbone after shooting Abraham Lincoln.] Artifact in the museum collection, National Park Service, Ford's Theatre National Historic Site, Washington, D.C.

In addition, we learn these details about an inscription on the knife:

The dagger is engraved with the words "Liberty" and "America."
