Charles Benazach - the artist who created this painting - was born in London around 1767. He was in Paris, studying with the artist Greuze, when he witnessed scenes from the French Revolution. During this eventful time frame, he created four paintings which made him famous:

  • The Address of Louis XVI at the Bar of the National Convention
  • The Separation of Louis XVI from his Family
  • The last Interview between Louis XVI and his Family
  • Louis XVI ascending the Scaffold

Those paintings were subsequently engraved by Luigi Schiavonetti.
