This map, entitled The Cherokee Country by James Mooney 1900, was included in the "Nineteenth Annual Report of The Bureau of American Ethnology 1897-98," published in 1900.

The Key outlines how Cherokee land was diminished during the years of American ascendancy:

  • Blue denotes "Limit of Original Cherokee Claims"
  • Red denotes "Cherokee Boundary at Close of [American] Revolution"
  • Green denotes "Cherokee Boundary at Final Cession" [when the U.S. government relocated the Cherokee to what is now the State of Oklahoma]
