Marie Antoinette - 1769 Portrait Famous People World History Visual Arts Social Studies

Marie Antoinette was born, in Austria, on November 2, 1755.  She was the daughter of Empress Maria Theresa and Francis I (rulers of the Holy Roman Empire).

She became the Dauphine of France, in 1770, when she married the future Louis XVI.  She had that title until 1774, when Louis ascended to the throne.  She served as Queen of France and Navarre from 1774 to her death in 1792.

This image depicts a portrait of Marie Antoinette which Joseph Ducreux created in 1769, the year before she was married.
