Oiled Brown Pelicans - Grand Isle, Louisiana American History Disasters Famous Historical Events History Social Studies STEM Tragedies and Triumphs Geography

These heavily oiled brown pelicans were captured at Grand Isle, Louisiana, on the 3rd of June, 2010.  They bear the effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill which has contaminated parts of the Gulf of Mexico. 

The birds will be cleaned of the spilled crude at the Fort Jackson Wildlife Care Center in Buras, Louisiana.
