Washington was a young teenager when he wrote these school exercises between 1745 and 1748. His particular mathematical and surveying interests are reflected in the carefully drawn and written exercises.

In addition, these (and other) of young George's exercises:

...provide a fair view of the range of early tutorial education provided the son of a Virginia planter in the eighteenth century.
