Paul L. Bates - Robinson's Commanding Officer

Paul L. Bates - Robinson's Commanding Officer Education American History Social Studies

When the authorities at Camp Hood decided to charge 2nd Lt. Jack Robinson with two counts of insubordination - thereby putting him through a court-martial - the proceedings could not move forward without the approval of Robinson's commanding officer.

Lt. Col Paul L. Bates was the commander of Robinson's unit, the 761st Tank Battalion.  Bates refused to sign-off on the court-martial.

Undaunted, the authorities who wished to move forward with a trial against Robinson had him transferred from the 761st to another unit.
