Peleliu - Japanese Defenses

Peleliu - Japanese Defenses American History Native-Americans and First Peoples World War II Geography

This map of Japan's defenses, on the island of Peleliu, is from the USMC (U.S. Marine Corps) Historical Monograph entitled "The Seizure of Peleliu."  The area noted as "Umurbrogol Mountain" was nicknamed "Bloody Nose Ridge" by the Marines.

Note the airfield, at the southern part of the island, is near the beach landing areas.  It does not depict the extremely difficult coral terrain.
