Peterborough Cathedral - Mary's Resting Place Famous Historical Events Famous People Social Studies World History Tragedies and Triumphs

Following her execution, Mary Queen of Scots remained unburied for months.  On the 30th of July, 1587, her remains were interred at Peterborough Cathedral.  They remained there until her son, James, became King of England and Scotland.  

In 1603, the new King ordered that his mother's remains be interred in London, at Westminster Abbey.
