Professor Röntgen and his wife lived at the Physical Insitute of the University of Wurzburg at the time Röntgen discovered X-rays.  This image depicts how the Institute appeared in 1896.

The Röntgens lived upstairs.  The labs and classrooms were on the first floor and in the basement.  The lab, where Röntgen made his discovery, was also located in this building.
