Polaris Missiles - Fired From Submerged Submarine

When Bobby Kennedy made the deal his brother, President Kennedy, authorized him to make, the Soviets were unaware of one major point.  America's polaris missiles were already slated to replace the land-based missiles in Turkey (among other places).

This newsreel - from the 21st of July, 1960 - depicts how polaris missiles worked.  In a test mission, the first two are fired from the submerged submarine, USS George Washington.  They traveled 1100 miles to their targets.
