Resolution to Declare America Independent

On June 7, 1776, Richard Henry Lee drafted a Resolution for Independence from Great Britian.  This image depicts that document.  It states:

Resolved, That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.

It was this issue which set in motion drafting a Declaration of Independence.  Five men were given the job with Thomas Jefferson taking the lead as chief writer.
