Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper featured stories about the July 4-5, 1857 gang violence which occurred in New York City. This image was included in its July 18, 1857 issue (at page 108).

This is the newspaper’s caption:

View from the "Dead Rabbit" barricade in Bayard Street, taken at the height of the battle by our own artist, who, as spectator, was present at the fight.

The illustration provides a view of the fighting in the Sixth Ward:
