Schlangenberg Geography History Social Studies

Image of a photograph, taken by BBKurt in July of 2007, which depicts the Schlangenberg (Snake Mountain), a nature preserve located near Breinigerberg, Germany.

It is this place which Dostoevsky writes about, in The Gambler:

And yet I swear by all that's sacred that if at the Schlangenberg, at the fashionable peak, she really had said to me, 'Throw yourself down,' I should have thrown myself down at once, also with positive relish. (The Gambler, page 15 of the Constance Garnett translation.)
