Robert Capa, the Hungarian-born photographer who was embedded with the 16th Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division, took numerous pictures of the soldiers attempting to reach shore on D-Day.

Working for LIFE Magazine, at the time, Capa sent his photographs to his employer.  In their rush to get them to press, however, members of LIFE's staff damaged all by 11 of Capa's significant photos.

This image depicts soldiers struggling to reach shore while taking shelter behind German-placed beach obstacles.
