Sparta - Bronze Banqueter Artifact

Sparta - Bronze Banqueter Artifact Archeological Wonders Ancient Places and/or Civilizations Film Social Studies World History Visual Arts

Archaeological evidence, at Sparta, reveals that the city-state was not always focused on military strength.  During earlier times, craftsmen expertly used bronze and ivory to create beautiful objects.  Such items were later found at religious sites because they had been gifts to the Spartans' gods.

This image is of a bronze banqueter, likely made in (or near) Sparta between 530-500 BCE.   It was reportedly rediscovered at the Sanctuary of Zeus (at Dodona, Epirus, Greece).
