T.rex - Digitizing a Skull

T.rex Digitizing a Skull

Sue - the T. rex found by Sue Hendrickson and now owned by Chicago’s Field Museum - has a huge head which weighs around 2000 pounds.

To learn more about the dinosaur, personnel at the Field Museum requested Boeing, the airline maker, to run a CT scan of Sue’s skull.  That CT scan was performed in 1998.

This image depicts the resulting virtual model of Sue’s skull.  It is comprised of hundreds of separate scans, with each being two millimeters (about 1/16 inch) thick.
