The Destruction of Charlestown

The Redcoats burned Charlestown to the ground during the Battle of Bunker Hill. Harassed by rebel musket fire, from the town, British forces were commanded to set it afire. Those orders were carried out by heavy naval bombardment.

Since the buildings were made of wood, flames quickly devoured them.
