Theseus Slays the Minotaur

With his father's sword in hand, Theseus killed the Minotaur

Ariadne, who had given Theseus what he needed to end the beast's life, decided to leave Crete with Theseus.

Quickly making for his ship, Theseus and the unsacrificed Tributes - whom he had saved from death - left Crete.  Before they could set their sails for Athens, however, they had to do battle with some of Crete's naval forces.

Ariadne began to regret her actions. She wondered whether her love for Theseus was a sufficient reason to betray her own father and the people of Crete.

Such is the struggle routinely faced by the heroes of Greek myths and legends.
