Tuberculosis - "Consumption"

Tuberculosis was one of the most dreaded diseases of the 19th century.  It is still killing people around the world.

Edgar Allan Poe lost his mother, his wife, his brother Henry and his foster-mother (Frances Allan) to tuberculosis.

This video clip provides background about the illness, how it is contracted and how it is treated in the modern world.  Drugs available today, to combat the disease, were not available during Poe's lifetime.
