USS Nautilus - First Nuclear-Powered Submarine

In this newsreel, from 16 June 1952, President Truman dedidcates America's first nuclear-powered submarine - the USS Nautilus (SSN 571) - in Groton, Connecticut.  It was scheduled to be completed within a year or two.

In the same newsreel, from the early Cold-War period, we learn about problems in Korea (the conflict there had reached a stalemate) and witness parts of a British soccer match in Yankee Stadium.

Watching the complete newsreel, one gets a sense of the contradictions which characterized the early years of the Cold War.
