After the war, captured V-2 rockets were shipped to the United States where they were reassembled for study at the White Sands Proving Ground, in New Mexico.  This photo depicts one of those weapons and its German-made transporter.

By this time, Wernher von Braun - the V-2's key designer - was working for the U.S. government.  He and his team lived at nearby Fort Bliss (in Texas).

The first firing of reassembled V-2s - using German-made parts - took place in 1946.
