Viet Cong Base Camp in Flames Tragedies and Triumphs Disasters Social Studies World History

American and South Vietnamese troops did their best to locate, and eliminate, bases of North Vietnamese guerillas (called “Viet Cong”).  This image depicts the burning of one such location.

Maintained at the U.S. National Archives, this picture has the following description:

My Tho, Vietnam. A Viet Cong base camp being.  In the foreground is Private First Class Raymond Rumpa, St Paul, Minnesota, C Company, 3rd Battalion, 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, with 45 pound 90mm recoiless rifle.  04/05/1968
