This image depicts a “Warsaw Pact” propaganda poster.

Formed in 1955, the Warsaw Pact was to the Soviet Union and its sphere of influence what NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was (and is) to Canada, America and the nations of Western Europe. (NATO was formed in 1949.)

In addition to the fifteen republics of the Soviet Union, the following countries were members of the Warsaw Pact:

  • Albania
  • Poland
  • Romania
  • Hungary
  • East Germany
  • Czechoslovakia
  • Bulgaria

The title of this poster is written in Russian. Translated into English, it means “We are Invincible.”

The Warsaw Pact alliance lasted until the USSR dissolved in 1991.
