The Greek town of Salonika is also known as Thessaloniki (or, in ancient times, as Thessalonika or Thessalonica).  Today there are 15 separate UNESCO World Heritage sites in this city.

As a port city in Greece, Thessaloniki is second-only to Piraeus (the port of Athens). Named after a sister of Alexander the Great, it has a long (and sometimes violent) history (extending back to ancient times).
