By the time President Roosevelt attended the Yalta Conference—near the end of his life—he was unwell.  This image depicts a scene from the Yalta Conference in February of 1945.

The original caption—from the U.S. National Archives—uses these words:

Conference of the Big Three at Yalta makes final plans for the defeat of Germany.

In this image, we see the leaders of the “Big Three” - Churchill, FDR and Stalin - on the patio at Yalta.

Behind the three heads of state are (from the left):

  • Field Marshal Sir Alan Brooke
  • Fleet Admiral Ernest King
  • Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy
  • General of the Army George Marshall
  • Major General Laurence S. Kuter
  • General Aleksei Antonov
  • Vice Admiral Stepan Kucherov
  • Admiral of the Fleet Nikolay Kuznetsov

The photo was taken in February of 1945 (exact date unknown, according to the U.S. National Archives).
