van Gogh Copies Hiroshige - Bridge in the Rain Famous People Tragedies and Triumphs Visual Arts Nineteenth Century Life

In 1887, Vincent attempted to replicate some of Ando Hiroshige’s work. His Bridge in the Rain, shown above, is based on Hiroshige’s Evening Shower at Atake and the Great Bridge.

Van Gogh painted this oil on canvas in Paris, during September and October of 1887.  Today it is displayed at the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
